HISTORY
The footwear production in Vigevano, since its beginning in 1912, has seen a steady growth, due to technological innovation, that is, to the mechanization of the production process.
The foreign American, German, English, Czechoslovak machines, used in the inter-war period, lacked assistance and instruction handbooks; consequently the local "repairers" were compelled to copy or make the pieces again and in a short time they became specialized machine shops which mended, improved and renewed the machines.
In the post-war period, during the so-called Italian "economic boom", Vigevano became the world leader in this field.
Up to today most of the manufacturing machines existing in the footwear factories worldwide have been produced in Vigevano.

Notwithstanding internationalization and the shift of the production axis which has created difficulties, there are still more than two hundred workshops and factories in Vigevano and in the nearby area working in the footwear field.
